Salon du Chocolat October/November 2019

About:

Sylvie Douce ran an event management company and thought up the idea in 1994, she discussed her idea with Francois Jeantet, a food critic and architect. They both shared a passion for chocolate.

The very first Salon du Chocolat was held at the Eiffel Branly convention centre, Paris on 28 October 1995. It was a resounding success with 40,000 visitors and today welcomes over 110,000 visitors and 230 exhibitors from all over the world.

In 1998 the show headed to New York and was a success there too. All major television networks promoted the event and audiences queued over five blocks bringing traffic to an entire Manhattan neighbourhood to a standstill.

In 2000 it headed to Tokyo a continent with hardly any previous interest in chocolate. Tokyo succumbed to the charms of chocolate and expanded into several major Japanese cities.

Since 2005 it was international conquest, visiting:
Beijing, Moscow, Shanghai, Cairo, Salvador de Bahia, Lima, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bologna, Cologne, Zurich, Monaco, Brussels, London, Marseille, Cannes, Lyon, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lille, Nantes….. etc etc.

The event has been held a total of 237 times since it’s creation, with 15 events every year on four continents, and 2019 is it’s 25th anniversary!

That’s a lot of chocolate!!

As usual there is a bitter and twisted villain who hates chocolate and wants to stop the event forever! Chocolate Chip Charlie of Bourbon was born into an aristoscratchit family the Bourbon’s of erm… Bourbon, whose family business was baking, specialising in crouissants and bread batons. Chocolate Chip Charlie was denied chocolate as a child by his ruthless father who told him too much chocolate would make him fat and he would never find a wife to carry on the dynasty. So not one crumb of chocolate passed poor Chocolate Chip Charlie’s lips. After seeing the peasant children greedily eating home made chocolate and chocolate cakes, his disappointment and yearning to get his mouth round chocolate soon turned to bitter hatred and so he grew up into a thin tall young man who tried to woo the neighbouring aristoscratchit young ladies, waving his baton at them and showing off his croissants to them. Which needless to say got him in more trouble than you can imagine. Turning him into even more of a sourdought… erm… sorry couldn’t resist it.

This year Chocolate Chip Charlie from Bourbon is heading to Paris with his bunsen burner and portable blow lamp in his pocket to melt all the chocolate creations at the Salon du Chocolat and if successful he will then travel to the warehouse are of Paris to blitz all the cocoa stored there! The world would then be his crumpet and he could become the king of bakers, pushing bread to the limits and outdoing anything chocolate could ever dream of. Yep, he’s lost the plot, we can honestly say there’s nothing in the middle of his doughnut!

So XPets, we have to stop him before he carries out his dastardly plan, and make him ………. toast. Oh ok! Can’t I have a bit of fun writing this stuff sniggers

So make sure you read this intel properly, as the quiz answers will be in here, look out for Chocolate Chip Charlie of Bourbon, his pic will be attached to this intel, and let’s make sure that we can get our paws on chocolate for many years to come! His pic will also be on the article in the news section too!
