We’re heading off to somewhere warm and it just so happens it’s the most remote island in the world! Yep we’re heading to Easter Island. It’s all happening over there for the first 2 weeks of February, they hold their Tapati Festival, which is a collection of competitions from horse racing, swimming, skidding down a hill on a banana tree (that’s gotta smart), canoeing, dancing and dress competitions. There’s lots more going on but you get the gist.
So this is the mission (looks around and puts paw to side of snout to whisper) there’s a villain. Yep isn’t there always one? Well this time he’s a native of Easter Island but none of the other islander’s know who he is, cos he’s sneaky! He disguises himself as one of those huge megalith thingies that are stood all around the island. Creepy or what?
We found out by our satellite eavesdropper gadget wotsit thingie that he’s causing problems for the festival. He’s saboutaging as many as he can by sneaking up on them which isn’t easy when you’re a 25ft zillion ton of rock. We have to find out where he is and give him a blast from the past and plug his crevices with dynamite. Let’s hope he can’t regenerate or we’ll be chasing tennis ball size bits of rock all over the island for months!
Here’s the intel on the actual goings on and what to expect and other stuff…. Easter Island

INTEL:
The Tapati Festival
1st 2 weeks of February
Easter Island is known for the monolithic heads and potential for deep magic, but for two weeks in early February, our attention is drawn to a unique cultural festival. What Tapati Rapa Nui offers isn’t unlimited drinks or heart-thumping music – but authentic, islander culture.
Lots of dancing and singing competitions, as well as traditional sporting events such as swimming, canoeing, horse racing, etc.
Each year 2 young female candidates compete with each other to become Queen of the Tapati for a year. Each competition carries points, meaning that the candidate with the most points at the end of the 2 weeks is crowned the Queen.
Festival activities include things like Haka Pei (sliding down the islands steepest slope on a banana trunk), the Rapa Nut triathlon, horse racing and the group of dance competitions in the evening.
The main events take place on the stage each night at Hanga Vare Vare, while daytime competitions such as horse racing take place at different locations all around the island. Everyone can take part in the competitions from locals to visitors.

Sounds good huh?
So after we’ve found our villain, Rock Butt Billy, there’s the compulsory quiz to prove you’re paying attention and not asleep somewhere out of sight! And after that…. there’s our picture competition where you can use your super intelligence to think up a funny caption.

So don’t forget, mark your diaries up for Sunday, pack your sun cream, and get. yourself over to Easter Island. You can’t miss it, well you can cos it’s tiny and in the middle of the ocean miles from anywhere but I’ll send a flare or three up to show you where it’s at.

See you there pals!

Location

Easter Island, Valparaíso, Chile
